What is OpenVZ?

OpenVZ is an operating system level virtualisation for the Linux operating system. It enables users to run container-based virtual machines known commonly as VPS or Virtual private servers. OpenVZ technology provides an environment to create multiple secure and isolated containers (otherwise known as VEs or VPSs) on a single physical server node which allows for better resource utilisation. Each VPS is independently run and is provided with its own resources; It performs and executes just like a physical server and may be rebooted individually.

OpenVZ technology is highly scalable with almost no overhead. With features like process isolation and rapid provisioning, deployment of OpenVZ VPS containers improves efficiency, flexibility and quality of service in enterprise environments.
